The Foundation for Evangelism will empower smaller congregations to launch new evangelistic experiments through training cohorts and innovation grants. Through an expansion of our proven online and in-person cohorts—where over 1,000 seminarians, pastors, and congregations have been trained in the past seven years—churches will understand their gifts, listen well to their communities, and be equipped to evaluate current ministries and develop new ones. FFE’s Equipping the Local Church grants annually support over 50 congregations across eight Methodist/Wesleyan-tradition denominations. These congregations were chosen because they were ready to launch an evangelism ministry, but we have found that while most smaller churches have the desire to reach new people, they do not know where to begin. Over a 5-year period, this grant will enable the creation of 18 cohort teams of clergy and lay leaders from 360 congregations (over 2,400 total leaders) to gain perspective on their ministry context and master tools and skills for evangelistic ministry that has a measurable impact for the congregation and community. Following the completion of the cohort training, congregations are eligible to receive an innovation grant to implement a ministry experiment using the tools and insights gained. As a learning organization, The Foundation for Evangelism will also create ongoing assessments of our grant impact as we follow cohort congregations for 5 years post-training. With this capability, we become nimble partners and advisors for Thriving Congregations across the country.
