The initiative's goal is to mentor and support 30 Latino congregations to thrive and achieve sustainability by equipping them with essential training and resources to uplift themselves and the broader community each congregation inhabits. The COVID-19 pandemic greatly impacted Latino congregations across North Carolina. Individual congregational leaders and laypersons experienced financial and emotional strain and struggled to maintain spiritual connection and sustainability. In addition, Latino congregational leaders reported issues in navigating aid programs and services due to linguistic and cultural barriers. To address this, Camino began developing a network of Latino congregations throughout North Carolina. The purpose of this network was to provide advice, mentorship, and theological and emotional support. We also offered our partners access to the array of services we provide to Latino immigrants in an effort to alleviate the strains caused by the pandemic. To date, the network has grown to over 420 individual congregations, varying in size and often led by bi-vocational pastors. The proposed initiative, Juntos Prosperamos, builds on this network and seeks to further equip Latino congregations to thrive, increase capacity, and gain sustainability. Following the Collective Impact Framework, Camino will equip congregations through various workshops, courses, and relational mentoring with theological education and community research to identify gaps and issues, provide pastoral care training and administrative support, and build sustainability.
