The purpose of ECHO (Elevating Church Outreach) for the Next Generation Black Church) is to promote congregational flourishing among Black churches in the Chicagoland area by harnessing the creative energy of youth/young adults in the local church context to develop social impact programs or projects which mobilize the local church to be more involved in their local communities, while simultaneously empowering youth/young adult leaders. ECHO will accomplish this objective by 1) offering mini-grants to local congregations for convening teams of youth/young adults to conceive, develop, and advance social impact programs or projects that galvanize their church; 2) convening community of practice cohorts which allow these youth/young adult teams from various churches to learn from one another and be mentored by a steering committee comprised of local faith-based social impact leaders; 3) hosting congregational learning sessions at participating churches where congregations can share what they have learned from the process and discuss what they can change institutionally to create more space for youth/young adult leadership in the life of the church; and 4) delivering tailored strategic plan reports incorporating evaluation of social impact programing and input from congregational collaboration sessions that encourage participating churches to create pathways for youth/young adult leadership while increasing community engagement outside the walls of the church.
