Congregational Renewal Cohorts is a learning and community-building program that uses project-based learning to help congregations develop skills, knowledge, and community needed to thrive today and in the future. Built on Pacific School of Religion's (PSR) history of successful programming for both clergy and lay leaders, and leveraging PSR’s deep relationships with congregations and denominational partners throughout the Western United States and Hawaii, Congregational Renewal Cohorts is the natural next step for PSR, providing Christian leadership formation and theological education in a format accessible to congregations. Utilizing a program of structured distance learning classes and seminars, coaching sessions, and a peer learning community, Congregational Renewal Cohorts will help congregations adapt to changing social and cultural contexts, refocus their values and missions, and reimagine the church in ways that deepen faith. Up to 50 congregations–with a focus on Latino/Hispanic, African American, Asian American/Asian Pacific Islander, and majority white congregations starting or with existing outreach to these communities–will participate in the program during the grant period. The impact will reach far beyond these congregations as communities continue to network with each other and as new congregations join the program after the grant period.
