Project Name: Congregations from Polarization to Unity
Description:

Sojourners is a national Christian ecumenical organization with the mission to articulate the biblical call to social justice, inspiring hope, and faith-rooted action through our publication, mobilizing, and advocacy, drawing on the long and diverse tradition of Christians following Jesus across cultures and history. Our Congregations from Polarization to Unity project is the latest in a 50-year trajectory of supporting congregations to see the intersection of their faith, culture, and politics in order to find ways to transform their ministries so that they may express the Christian Gospel in vibrant and relevant ways. The Congregations from Polarization to Unity project is providing congregations and faith leaders with direct access to virtual, interactive resources and learning communities with shared opportunities to address polarization within congregations as well as other areas of conflict within the community. This project recognizes that congregations are grappling with deep divisions and polarization both internally and within their communities, and doing so in an environment impacted by the pandemic, technology, a perceived decline in the relevance of religion, pastoral burnout, and other factors. This project seeks to help congregations thrive, not only by overcoming polarization and division, but by adapting to a changing social and cultural context, showing clarity of values and mission, and cultivating Christian practices to deepen the faith of congregants. Congregations from Polarization to Unity is 1) empowering congregations and faith leaders to identify and prevent polarization in their churches, 2) shepherding a learning community of congregants to share knowledge and engage in dialogue about the use of technology and digital spaces in order to grow and expand the reach of their congregation and create a sense of shared community, and 3) creating a learning community of BIPOC faith leaders to support one another spiritually and with self-care.
